The Mechanics of Composites for Energy and Mobility Laboratory team is characterized by international diversity, combined with training in diverse backgrounds, including applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, aeronautics & astronautics, material science, civil engineering, and computer science. Dr. Ahmed Wagih Abdel Hady a senior research scientist at the Mechanics of Composites for Energy and Mobility (MCEM) lab. at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). He obtained his Ph.D degree from Girona University, Spain in 2018. He was a postdoc fellow at Chalmers University of Technology until 2019. Finally, he joined KAUST as a postdoctoral fellow until 2022. His research interest includes experimental investigation and analytical and numerical simulation of failure/fracture in composite materials/structures. During his career, he published more than 75 papers in highly-ranked journals, 3 US patents, and communicated more than 10 conference presentation.
Research Interests
- Mechanics of composite materials: including damage in isotropic, orthotropic and anisotropic materials, fracture mechanics, homogenization techniques, micro- and macro-mechanical modeling and stress analysis of complex structures.
- Manufacturing and characterization of new nanocomposites. This include manufacturing metal and polymer matrix nanocomposites and their characterization (tensile, compression, bending, indentation, mode I, II and mixed mode fracture toughness, translaminar fracture toughness and shear testes). Additionally, Mechanical, wear, electrical, thermal and physical properties of these new materials are also included.
- Chemical modifications of materials for structural applications. This include surface coating of metals ceramics and polymers.
