Yan has been developing a coupling strategy between non-local and local continua called the morphing method. Together with Han Fei, he has written a simulation software that supports coupled models and hybrid local/non-local models in three dimensions. The simulation software is discretized in FEM and DGFEM, and supports simulation of static fracture. Currently, he is working on the extension of the morphing method for the modelling of damage localization problems. Yan is in the last stages of his Ph-D, and will defend his thesis in Fall 2013.
